Cocowalk on the Netscape
Grade: Eighth Grade

Teach the students how to use the Netscape as a reference.

NCTM Standards: Calculator usage, Estimation, Spatial skills
Procedure: Cocowalk address -- http://www.cocowalk.com
1) Teach the students to use the Netscape as an information source. Give the address and pair the students in groups of two or as the computers available will allow.
2) First, find JW Cooper (under Shops). Select two items from the catalog and calculate the total cost with 6.5% sales tax. Remember to round to the hundredths place.
3) Proceed on to the Kennedy Studios. Explore the Featured Artist of the Month. Is there anything interesting about this person that applies to any field in education?
4) Finally, give instructions for how to reach the Coconut Grove from Miami International Airport.
5) If time permits, dicuss the different items the groups chose to purchase and why. Also discuss the Featured Artist, if relevant.
Assessment: Give the students five Netscape addresses and have them explore one the next day in class, as most probably do not have outside access to Netscape. Describe the home pages and anything they found interesting.
